  • What to Wear // Summer Weddings

'Tis the season of love... and we're not talking about Valentine's Day. It's wedding season! It's that time of the year in which we gather to celebrate the marriages of family members and friends {again and again and again}. Weddings truly are lovely - celebrating and dancing with those closest to us, but finding something to wear can be challenging. And with multiple weddings throughout the summer, that's multiple outfits you have to find.

When deciding what to wear, we suggest you start with the where and when. Is it during the day or at night? Is the setting casual like a beach or formal like a swanky evening venue? Does the invitation include a dress code? For all weddings we suggest avoiding white {that's the bride's thing}, staying away from overly bright or revealing clothing {you don't want to stand out more than the bride}, and overdressing when in doubt {we say it's better to overdress than underdress}.

For those who are looking for inspiration or are in search of the perfect wedding outfit, we came up with easy go-to wedding looks for a beach wedding, a black tie wedding, and a garden chic wedding.

    Happy wedding season!

  • One Top Three Ways // J's Everyday Fashion

If you don't already, you have to follow J's Everyday Fashion blog! You can consider J, the "girl next door" of the internet. She shares outfit inspiration for everyday women looking for stylish guidance on a budget. You know when you see a magazine ad of that perfect outfit that you wish you could pull off? That's were J comes in. She turns those looks into a reality... at an affordable price.

We decided to throw a challenge J's way by asking her to style the Sleeveless Chambray Buttondown three ways: for the weekend, for the office, and for an evening out. Naturally, she rose to the occasion and came up with the following looks!

  • Behind the Scenes // Lily and Violet Summer LookBook

We had so much fun creating the Summer '13 Lily and Violet LookBook! If you haven't flipped through it yet, head over to our lookbook page to see the full thing. Because we have so many vibrant and stunning summer pieces, we decided to keep thing simple and let the clothes speak for themselves in this issue.

Photo shoots are so much fun but they take an army to pull off! We wanted to give you all a peek into the summer photo shoot, so we threw together some footage and images from behind the scenes. Enjoy!

  • Weekend Roundup // The Kentucky Derby + Cinco de Mayo

    WEEKEND ROUNDUP

It's finally Friday, and we couldn't be more excited because it's a big weekend of celebrations! Saturday is the Kentucky Derby, the most exciting two minutes in sports, and in our opinion the most glamorous - pretty dresses and big hats? Yes, please! On Sunday, we'll be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with margaritas, tortilla soup and the wonderful company of family and friends! If you haven't planned anything for the weekend, it's not too late to throw a fab viewing party on Saturday or a fun gathering on Sunday. We've rounded up some easy last minute ideas that will have your guests raving!

    {The Kentucky Derby}

Send your friends a cute Red Stamp e-vite, step into a feminine, fabulous dress, and throw on your biggest hat {we think this Mint Julep Dress is just perfect!}. Our friend's at Style-Architects sure know how to throw a party! They shared fun and easy ideas over on their blog for what to serve, what to sip on, and how to decorate. Did we mention they provided invitation, drink and menu cards, and additional printouts by Kayd Roy Design? They're available here: Invitation; MenuPlace CardsStir SticksCupcake Tops.

    {Cinco de Mayo}

If you aren't a big fan of the Kentucky Derby, or you're up for two days of fun {because it's too hard to pick one!}, we've rounded up some of our fav drinks, eats, and activities for a festive Cinco de Mayo celebration! Caitlin of Style Within Reach shared her drink recipes for refreshing Margaritas and Paloma's, a grapefruit, lime + tequila cocktail {it was featured on Style Me Pretty Living}! We don't really need an excuse to eat chips and guacamole, tacos or tortilla soup, but if you're looking for one, Sunday is the perfect day to try out this creamy tortilla soup recipe from Love & Lemons. As for the decor, we say keep it simple! Keep your guests entertained with a photo booth using this DIY giant papel picado backdrop from Camille Styles.

Have a wonderful weekend lovelies - Let the fun begin!

  • Tulle Me Once...

Oh, tulle. Feminine, pretty, soft, dainty, whimsical - need we go on? We're quite big fans of tulle and now that the sun is coming out and the weather is permitting, we can't get enough of it! The best thing about tulle is that it is so versatile. You can dress it up or dress it down, make it edgy or girly - the possibilities are endless! For instance, Lily would pair a tulle skirt with a chambray shirt and ballet flats, while Violet would throw on a graphic tee and booties. How do you wear tulle?

Here are four different fabulous ways to style tulle for spring!

  • A Week in the Life of a Style Blogger // The Brunette One

    By Samantha Peterson

Truth, I am not a morning person. I hit the snooze button five times, race out the door, and make it to work just
past 8 o'clock, on a good day. I spend my days in a grey cubical in front of two large computer screens {our company
is moving into a new renovated building in July - natural light, lots of white, and even sit-to-stand desks..it's the
little things people}. You can usually find me updating our database for our online merchandise catalog {I buy for
video games, health & fitness, and pets, whoohoo!} and researching amenities for our event management programs
that operate in San Diego all the way to South Africa.

Once five o'clock rolls around, I high-tail it home. Monday evenings you can find me teaching ballet in the East Village.
Every other night of the week I am usually out to dinner with my fiancé, or we are parked on the couch, catching up
on the latest shows {PLL is my guilty pleasure}. Between every day life happenings and my full time job, I find time to
sit down and work on my labor of love, my little corner of the internet, The Brunette One.

Here is a glimpse of a week in my life. How I relax, where I find my inspiration, and even a sneak peek into a project
my bestie, Katelyn, and I are working on!

Getting lost in a new book with a warm cup of tea {I have a black tea addiction} in my new hand-painted mug.

  • Jet Set // What to Pack

    Passport to...

It's about that time to start planning for summer vacations {or dreaming about them - nothing wrong with that!}. Deciding what to pack can be quite the dilemma though! We worked with six lovely bloggers to bring you vacation packing lists for some of their favorite vaca spots - because who knows how to look fabulous better than lifestyle bloggers, right! Whether you're jetting across the ocean or your visiting a new city in the US, we've got you covered all the way from Monte Carlo to Charleston, SC.

Camille Styles shows us how to pack for glam-packed weekend in Monte Carlo. We're dreaming of yachts, casinos, and ever-flowing Vueve {pinch us, please!}.

Style & Pepper's Jessie Artigue shares her packing list to Argentina - looks like the perfect wardrobe for dancing in the streets and sleepless night!

Penny Pincher Fashion's Kimberly Smith shows us inside her suitcase filled with classic, feminine pieces, in true San Francisco fashion!

Molly Miller of A Piece of Toast shows us her pretty and sophisticated looks for the charming coastal city, Charleston.

The other sister behind A Piece of Toast, Sally Miller, is packing preppy and flirty styles for her vacation to the Seaside, Florida.

Vanessa Rodriguez of Stylishlyme shares some bright, fun and flirty pieces she would bring on a vacation to the beautiful country, Greece {the name alone takes our breath away}!
